On a day when every other favorite in the SEC caught a terrible case of “What-in-the-world-is-happening?” season-killing, upset-itus, the Champs managed to stay healthy and gain another victory.
In fact, the Tide may have played their most complete game of the season. They dominated their opponent more thoroughly than they have been able to in any of their games thus far. Of course it helped that they were playing the Western Division version of Kentucky.
In fact, even the Mildcats were able to cause a couple of fumbles and stay in the game through the first quarter. The Pigs surrendered almost immediately after the opening kickoff and the closest they came to scoring was having a field goal blocked in the 3rd quarter.
Bama gained 536 yards while holding the Hawgs to 256. The offensive line gave up no sacks. The team committed no penalties and gave up no turnovers. Yeah, pretty much total domination, just like we like it.
Everything went “just right” with one exception: The Fan’s MOST IMPORTANT RULE when playing an inferior opponent was not followed. Remember the rule: “Get out of the game with no serious injuries.” A very important rule and unfortunately, we broke it. Vinnie Sunseri was injured covering a kickoff in the 2nd quarter and it looks like he’s going to be out for the season. This the second season-ending injury the Tide has suffered to a defensive backfield that came into the season lacking depth. It can’t help things for Vinnie to be out, but the question is, how much will it hurt the rest of the way.
And speaking of the “rest of the way” welcome to “Let’s take orange out of the rainbow week!” Yep. It’s time to get ready to play the Little Oranges who picked up their first BIG WIN of the season last Saturday stunning South Carolina with a last second field goal in Knoxville. The Oranges seem to be improving week by week so this will be a far tougher game than anyone would have predicted at the beginning of the season – and that’s how we like it! It’s Tennessee Time, y’all. Get ready to roll.
7 down, 7 to go.
